Prepare Your Heart for Easter with Daily Prayer
Last week, our stake had a special Stake Conference. I say special for two reasons. First, we already had our normal Stake Conference not long ago, but this one was in conjunction with a multi-stake leadership training. Second, Elder Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was presiding and speaking! We also had Sister Emily Belle Freeman, the General Young Women President, as a speaker, and—what a treat!—we got to hear from Sister Kearon as well.
During her talk, Sister Kearon said something that really stuck with me. She spoke about preparing for Easter the way we prepare for Christmas. Easter is when we celebrate the Atonement of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the most important event in human history. So why don’t we prepare for it as intentionally as we do for Christmas?
That question sat with me for a while. How can I better prepare my heart—and the hearts of my family—to celebrate Easter?
That’s when an idea popped into my head: a 30-day Easter Prayer Countdown Chain!
Why an Easter Prayer Countdown?
My kids love countdown chains. There’s something so simple but exciting about taking off one link each day and watching the big day get closer.
But instead of just marking the days, this countdown is all about preparing our hearts for Easter through prayer. Each day, there’s a short prayer prompt to help focus on different aspects of Jesus Christ’s life, His Atonement, and His Resurrection. These can be prayed alone or as a family, making it a beautiful way to invite the Spirit into your home in the weeks leading up to Easter.
How to Use the Easter Prayer Countdown Chain
- Print the free printable countdown chain (linked below).
- Cut out the strips and loop them into a chain, attaching each link with tape or glue.
- Start 30 days before Easter (or just jump in whenever you find this!). Each day, remove one link and use the prayer prompt for your personal or family prayer.
- Reflect and discuss – If doing this as a family, take a few minutes to talk about the prompt. How does it apply to your life? How can you see Jesus’ hand in your day?
